Located in the heart of Hairmyres, East Kilbride, K-Woodlands is a thriving 16.48-hectare stretch of urban forest, lovingly maintained by the East Kilbride Community Trust. We are committed to protecting natural spaces, promoting both mental and physical wellbeing, and fostering a deeper understanding of the environment.
The site is guided by Trustee Jaynie Kean, with day-to-day operations overseen by Site Manager Karina Kinnaird and volunteer surveyor Cameron Hathorn. They are joined by a passionate group of regular volunteers — Douglas, Pat, Linda, Carol, Ann, Barbara, and Joan — who dedicate their time each week to keeping the woodland beautiful and accessible.
K-Woodlands is also a hub of community activity.
Every Wednesday at 10:30am, the team hosts a Wellness Walk — a relaxed, hour-long stroll through the trees, finished off with coffee, cake, and friendly conversation in the community area.
Fridays are all about getting involved. From 10:30am to 1:00pm, volunteers meet to carry out a wide range of hands-on tasks — from painting and planting to litter picking, habitat care, and more. Each session brings something different, and all are welcome to join in.
School holidays bring a host of family-friendly fun, with engaging nature-based activities like bug hunts, pond dipping, scavenger hunts, den building, and even teddy bear picnics for the little ones.
One of the highlights of the year is the K-Woodlands Halloween celebration, drawing around 500 visitors annually. This spooky evening features tombolas, a silent disco, ghost stories, toasted marshmallows, food trucks, and loads of festive scares — a must for families and thrill-seekers alike!
